School of Geology and Geophysics

Graduate Assistantships & Fellowships

Several types of financial aid are available to students on a competitive basis. Prospective graduate students are considered for financial aid at the time of application.

The School offers approximately 13 teaching assistantships with stipends which typically include a waiver of out-of-state tuition. All teaching assistants are required to complete satisfactorily a short course on teaching prior to the begiinning of the semester. International students are required to pass an English language proficiency exam (administered by the University) before they can hold a teaching assistantship.

Additionally, the school awards several research assistantships and fellowships using funds from industrial and other private sources. Funds for graduate support are also available from the Oklahoma Geological Survey, the Sam Noble Museum of Natural History, and the Energy Center at the University of Oklahoma. Grant-supported research assistantships are available through faculty doing federal-, foundation- or industry-sponsored research.

These assistantships carry a stipend comparable to teaching assistantships as well as some support toward waiver of out-of-state tuition.
