A little knowledge goes a long way. In 1991, I found a blind pegmatite pocket at the Little Three mine, Ramona, San Diego, California, that measured 4 m long, 3 m wide, and up to 2 m high. The pocket produced many dozens of specimens including microcline (like the big 35 kg crystal in my lap!), smoky quartz, green tourmaline, blue topaz, and crystalline masses of lavender lepidolite.
